The Story of Serch: Courage, Sacrifice and Hope

The day I went to pick up these bags at the CRS, I was greeted by Serch, a face I didn't know. I asked him why he was inside, and with his eyes downcast, he began to tell me his story.

Serch was a taxi driver, married and the father of two children. One afternoon, after a heated argument at home, he decided to go for a walk to clear his mind. Wandering the streets, he came across a dangerous situation: a mugging in progress. Without a second thought, Serch grabbed a metal pipe and hit the assailant to defend the victim. In the chaos, he didn’t see where the assailant’s companion came from. The victim and one of the assailants were injured. Without clear evidence and with a judicial system full of injustices, he was accused of a crime he did not commit. He is now serving a 15-year sentence.

In prison, Serch faced her new reality with resignation, but without losing hope. It was there that she discovered her talent for craftsmanship. With each bag she made, she put not only her skill, but also her hope of showing her children that, even in the darkest of times, you can create something beautiful and valuable.

Today, Serch not only makes the bags you see, but also teaches the trade to other inmates, forming a community of support and improvement. Each piece is a work of art, steeped in history and sacrifice. Even though she still has 10 years left to serve, she dreams of the day when she can walk freely and be an active part of her children's lives.

Every purchase of these bags not only helps Serch and his family, but also supports a larger community fighting for a second chance. Stories like Serch's remind us that even behind bars, love and hope can flourish.
